Hybrid internet solutions

The project

Since the takeover of Tessares’ activities in June 2024, Wavenet has been providing ongoing maintenance and support for the Hybrid Internet solutions based on MPTCP deployed at Proximus, KPN, Telia & British Telecom, as well as at Go Malta until 2025.
These solutions combine xDSL and 4G/5G networks to deliver a faster, more reliable and continuous connection — without hardware lock‑in and without requiring fiber.

The challenge

In a declining market that is still used by more than 100,000 people across Europe, the challenge was to maintain a critical solution while ensuring sustainable vendor support.

It required maintaining stability for HAG platforms and CPE devices in sensitive environments, preserving high performance despite massive data volumes, remaining compatible with evolving technologies, and managing major upgrades without compromising SLAs or disrupting service.

Our solution

To address these challenges of stability, performance, and service continuity, Wavenet implemented an evolutionary maintenance strategy designed to ensure the long‑term continuity and performance of the hybrid solutions.

This approach relies on proactive monitoring of the HAGs and CPEs to anticipate incidents before they occur, as well as advanced automation for deployments and updates. Expert technical support was mobilized to efficiently handle issues related to multi‑vendor integrations.

In addition, continuous performance optimization ensures aggregated speeds of up to 300 Mbps on CPEs and up to 24 Gbps on HAGs, delivering stable and reliable service quality even in highly demanding operational environments.

Benefits for operators

  • Reduced SLA risks thanks to continuous monitoring.
  • Flexibility to integrate new evolutions (5G, new CPEs).
  • Long‑term value of investments through a software‑based architecture without hardware lock‑in.

Benefits for end users

  • Faster and more reliable Internet connection.
  • Smooth experience for streaming, remote work, and critical uses.
  • Service continuity even during network congestion.

Results in numbers:

  • 4 major operators supported in Europe and over 100,000 end users.
  • Aggregated throughput tested on CPE: 321 Mbps (DSL + 5G).
  • 0 SLA breaches since the takeover in 2024.
